More Information: IMDB
Summary: In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late.
My Thoughts: Upon first reading Divergent, I was an insta-fan. I loved the setting, the writing, the characters, the entire world of Divergent. When I heard it was being made into a movie and not just any movie but a movie featuring one of my new favorite actresses, Shailene Woodeley, I may or may not have had a fit of silent screaming.
I was captivated from the very beginning. The way they portrayed dystopian/destroyed Chicago was wayyy better than my minds-eye could have every put it together from just reading the book. And the music was so hypnotic, but did not detract from the scene yet added to it.
Needless to say, I loved this movie. It was very true to the book and cut only what needed to be cut, and also Theo James. That beautiful man sparkled and shined on the screened like no other. Theo plays Four, the strong silent type, and comes off the screen as a beautiful mix between Marlon Brando a la A Streetcar Named Desire and someone else strong, silent, and beautiful that I can't think of at the moment because I googled "Brando Streetcar Named Desire" and got lost somehow...
Oh and let's not forget the eternally effervescent Shailene, my future best friend aka FBFFL, who kind of sort of completely stole the show. Tris Prior, Shailene's character, is supposed to be a strong female protagonist, but she does not seem to realize that she is yet. Shai's (can I call her Shai? We are FBFFL's) performance was effortless and inspiring. I have never wanted to punch a punching bag or zip down a zip line with class as much as I do now after seeing her do so on the silver screen. She was amazing. Theo was amazing. This movie was amazing. The end.
My rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
